New Jersey 2020 SHSP Research Assistance
Abstract

This project is focused on research supporting the New Jersey 2020 Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) implementation through several Year 2 Priority Actions. Specifically, this scope includes research of local and national best practices, identification of examples in New Jersey and other states, and reporting and sharing findings.
New Jersey safety stakeholders understand that implementation is key to an effective SHSP and eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on our roadway networks. Strategies and actions within the implementation plan are a result of data analysis and stakeholder input to support this goal. SHSP implementation team noted several priority actions would benefit from research. The Emphasis Areas for the strategies and actions range from Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) to infrastructure-focused strategy areas, such as intersections and lane departure.
